Manchester City have been hit with the news that club captain Vincent Kompany will be out of action for at least a month, according to SkySports News.

Kompany, who only recently returned to first team action following a recovery from injury, picked up a groin strain during his sides 3-1 victory over Everton at the weekend.

The Belgian stalwart is now set to miss a number of important games which City will be hoping to win, including fixtures against Chelsea and an all-important Champions League clash against CSKA Moscow.

Manuel Pellegrini will be cursing his luck, as his team enter a crucial phase of the season sitting only 5th in the Premier League, three points behind current league leaders Arsenal. It's expected he could miss games against West Ham and Newcastle as well.

The injury will also rule the 27-year-old out of a pivotal clash for the Belgium national team, whom he was due to link up this week. Belgium face Croatia away this Friday, and so the news of Kompany's withdrawal could hit them hard.
