Referee abandons Dutch league game in the 89th minute

Referees very rarely get it unequivocally right.

However it's even more unlikely to see them get it so abysmally wrong as Dennis Higler did in the fixture between Roda JC and PEC Zwolle.

It was mainly plain sailing for the official up until the 89th minute, when he opted to dish out a red card for a debatably intentional elbow by Roda JC forward Frank Demouge, subsequently incurring the wrath of the home fans.

Despite the game initially resuming as normal, Higler decided to abandon the match with only a minute to go, after the PEC Zwolle became the targets of Roda JC supporters throwing plastic pint cups onto the pitch.

The ref's decision to stop the fixture with only a minute to go is truly baffling, but the match was recorded as a 0-0 draw nonetheless.
