Diego Simeone

Football News

Diego Simeone is probably most remembered on these shores for his role in the David Beckham red card in the 1998 World Cup Second round match between England and Argentina.

Having been a tenacious and tough tacking defensive midfielder, Simeone has made his mark in La Liga as an impressive coach as well as proving himself capable of going up against Barcelona and Real Madrid.

His managerial accomplishments include winning two league titles back in his native Argentina with Estudiantes back in 2006 and River Plate in 2008.

Simeone has won three titles at current side Atletico Madrid, which have been the most impressive, including the Europa League in 2012 in an all Spanish final against Atletico Bilbao which was followed by an emphatic victory of Chelsea the following season.

His greatest achievement would have to be winning the Copa Del Rey in the 2012/2013 campaign seeing them beat Real Madrid after extra time.

The Argentine has developed a reputation of a hard task master and would definitely have a chance, although it would be an outside one, it would be one worth considering.
