Rays walk off HR forces Game 4 v Red Sox

Tampa Bay forced a Game 4 in the ALDS after Jose Lobaton struck a walk-off home run against the Boston Red Sox.

With the Rays knowing defeat would lead to elimination, the 28-year-old found the fish with his first at-bat of the game, coming in as a replacement at the top of the ninth.

Whilst Lobaton was drafted in for his ability in the field, it was a swing of the bat which did the damage as Koji Uehara could only watch in horror.

Evan Longoria had earlier hit a three-run HR in the fifth, bringing the hosts level with the Red Sox after a couple of errors had led to runs for the visitors earlier in the match-up.

And, after taking and then relinquishing the lead, it looked as though Tampa Bay’s earlier efforts in Game 163 and the post-season might have been in vein.

However, Lobaton ensured the two teams will have to do it all again tonight at Tropicana Field, with the Rays looking to force a Game 5 at Fenway Park on Thursday night.

After last night’s dramatic high, it would take a brave man to bet against Tampa Bay in an elimination situation.
