Liverpool defender did not join for money
Mamodou Sakho has denied reports that he joined Liverpool for money
Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has denied that he joined the club for money, and he claims he didn't feel respect from former club Paris Saint-Gemain.
Sakho joined Liverpool during the summer, costing the club £15 million from PSG, and has so far played four times for the Merseysiders.
The 23-year-old came through the youth academy at PSG, but was pushed down the pecking order when the likes of Alex and Thiago Silva joined the club.
However, the defender says he wasn't worried about competition for places, and that he could have made more money had he left the French giants in January.
Speaking to newspaper Le Parisien, the French international said: "In Paris, I have not always felt respect. I did not want to feel like a number you put in a corner to look pretty and "Made in PSG."
"And I add that I have not made a financial choice. Otherwise, I would have expected in January to go free. But no one could buy my pleasure to play".
Despite this, Sakho has not ruled out making a return to Paris in the future: "When I left, Nasser (Al-khelaifi, PSG owner) congratulated me and said that the door is still wide open for me to PSG. But my present is Liverpool".
Sakho has already made his impact felt with Liverpool, with the defender having broken some gym equipment during his medical with club doctors at the Melwood training ground.
