Manchester United Adnan Januzaj has hinted that he nay stay at the club, despite strong interest from other clubs.
After his match-winning display in the 2-1 victory over Sunderland, where he scored both of the Red Devils' goals, the issue of tying the player down to a new contract has become even more pressing.
Fans and pundits are already hinting that Januzaj could be the next Manchester United player to wear the famed number seven shirt; it is currently unoccupied after winger Antonio Valencia opted to revert back to his original squad number at the start of this season. These hopes are of course dependent on Januzaj staying at Old Trafford.
However spirits were raised around United yesterday when, quoted in the Daily Mirror, the youngster said, “I want to play well for United and give everything for my club.”
He was speaking in reference to the decision to ignore call-ups from the Belgian national team as he looks to press on with his burgeoning club career.
“I’m really enjoying myself,” continued Januzaj.
“I played quite a few games in the reserves last season and thought I did well."
Januzaj then referred to the support that has been shown to him by everyone at Old Trafford.
"When you realise everyone is behind you at Old Trafford, it gives you the belief to play with the qualities I have."
Indeed, Januzaj's comments seem to hint that he will sign a new, improved contract at United.
That will allay fears of his departure and will allow the player and the club to focus on his continued development.
If Januzaj does stay with the Premier League champions, there is every possibility that he will provide at least some of the answers to the squad deficiencies that manager David Moyes had been trying to address. The youngster's form may also improve the levels of performance shown by out-of-form players such as Ashley Young and Luis Nani.
