Southampton forward Adam Lallana has called upon Rickie Lambert’s England caps as inspiration for mounting his own England adventure.

Lambert was a relatively late starter in regards to the current England set-up, making his debut just this season. Lambert has made three appearances for the Three Lions, scoring twice and creating one assist in the process.

This form has inspired Lallana to push for his own England dream, with the Saints winger widely being touted as a potential answer to manager Roy Hodgson’s attacking options.

Speaking to The Sun, Lallana said: “What’s happened to Rickie is an inspiration. Not just for me but for Jack Cork, Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw in the future.

“It’s great and we’re all delighted for Rickie and how well he is doing,” he said.

Lallana has done no harm in boosting his international aspirations by helping the Saints to a 2-0 victory over Swansea on Saturday, with the winger in high spirits for the rest of the season.

“We deserve to be there (fourth place), we’re picking up momentum,” he added.

England face a stern test in the week as they face Montenegro on Friday, with another qualifying game against Poland also to play the following Tuesday.
