Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has stated his belief that talented teammate Adnan Januzaj is "at the right club" and that the Belgian-born prodigy can go on to have a great career in the game.
18-year-old Januzaj, who joined the Red Devils from Anderlecht in 2011, has impressed fans since being brought into the first-team setup by new United boss David Moyes during the summer.
He rewarded the faith shown in him by the beleaguered Scot on Saturday afternoon after netting a majestic second-half double to ensure that United bounced back from an early setback to record a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Premier League strugglers Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Januzaj's encouraging performances have led to much speculation over his immediate future, with the midfielder's current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Catalan giants Barcelona have been linked with a potential move for Januzaj, whose talks over a new deal reportedly stalled during the summer following the exit of managerial icon Sir Alex Ferguson.
While his future remains uncertain, England international Carrick, who himself arrived at Old Trafford from Tottenham Hotspur in July 2006, believes the starlet is already at the right club.
"Young lads can come in and change. Their life can change overnight and there are more responsibilities," he told the Manchester Evening News in an interview that was quoted by the Daily Mirror.
"He is at the right club. He has the right players around him who are willing to help him and obviously the right manager."
Carrick also went on to speak about the need to keep the pressure off of Januzaj's young shoulders and insisted that, provided he stays on the same path, he has a bright future in the game.
"You don't want to heap too much praise on him and put pressure on him because he is so young. He has everything there for him to prosper and fulfil his potential.
"As long as he keeps along the right lines and does the right things he has got a great chance of having one of the best careers," the 32-year-old added.
