Arsenal can count themselves as serious contenders for major honours if they are able to capture a top class striker in the January transfer window, according to club legend Dennis Bergkamp.
The Gunners have enjoyed a fine start to the season and sit top of the Premier League after seven games, but their top scorer is currently midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who has found the net eight times in all competitions.
Arsenal had tried desperately to secure the services of a high-profile frontman during the summer transfer window, but Arsene Wenger proved fruitless in his attempts to sign Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez.
The north London club were willing to break their transfer record to acquire either player, but Higuain left Real Madrid for Napoli, while Liverpool were unwilling to sell Suarez.
Wenger's current first choice frontman, Olivier Giroud, has performed well so far this season, but Arsenal still remain light in their forward department, and Bergkamp believes the recruitment of another striker is imperative.
"Can Arsenal go all the way and win that trophy? The signs are good," the Arsenal icon told The Telegraph.
"I still feel up front there should be a few more goals. Maybe in the winter transfer window they might look at that. But I think there is a chance to get to a higher level with the team.”
