Top five: Potential 2013 Ballon d'Or contenders (1)

Published 13 Comments

The last four Ballon d'Or ceremonies have seen Barcelona's Lionel Messi secure the main prize - but will that change in January when the 2013 Ballon d'Or winner is announced?

Don't be surprised if it does.

That's not to suggest that Messi has not enjoyed a brilliant 2013 - by scoring 60 goals last season and winning the Spanish league title with Barcelona last term, there's no question that he has - but has the world's best player won enough to win a fifth successive Ballon d'Or?

As Bayern Munich won an historic treble, including the Champions League, at least one of their players will feature in the top five.

And then there's Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 55 goals in 55 games for his club and six in six for Portugal.

Who will make the top three? Who will win the main prize?
