France manager Didier Deschamps has called up St Etienne defender Kurt Zouma after Arsenal star Laurent Koscielny picked up a calf injury.
The Gunners centre-back was in contention to start Les Bleus' final World Cup qualification fixture against Finland and their warm up for that game against Australia on Friday.
However, he is now a doubt for those games after picking the knock during training, which prompted Zouma to receive his furst senior call-up - he was training with Under-21s when he heard the news.
"Didier Deschamps has asked Kurt Zouma, currently training with the U21 squad with Willy Sagnol, to make himself available to the France team," read an FFF statement.
Zouma will be delighted at possibly getting his chance to represent the senior France side for the first time, but his compatriot Arsene Wenger will not be too happy about the circumstances.
The Arsenal manager has seen his side top the Premier League over the last two weeks and their success has been bult on a solid defensive unit, of which Koscielny is an integral part.
His partnership with Per Mertesacker at the heart of defence has blossomed in the last few months and losing either of those two would be a significant blow to the Emirates Stadium side.
Deschamps does not really need to risk Koscielny for the qualification tie against Finland, as France are unlikely to finish top of their group ahead of Spain and are guaranteed a runners-up playoff spot.
