Chelsea are plotting a £25 million bid for Arsenal target Julian Draxler, according to reports in Germany picked up by the Daily Star.
20-year-old Draxler, who currently represents Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04, has enjoyed a run of impressive form for the Gelsenkirchen-based side and his accomplished performances have seen the German international linked with a potential move away from Veltins-Arena.
Widely considered as the frontrunners for the talented playmaker are Premier League leaders Arsenal, with the Gunners being linked with a late swoop for Draxler towards the latter stages of this summer's transfer window.
The deadline expired with Draxler still very much a key member of Jens Keller's first-team squad, however, and Schalke's general manager, Horst Heldt, put any potential January switch in doubt earlier this week by asserting his belief that the coveted starlet will remain with the club at least until the end of the season.
However, according to reports in the Daily Star, it would appear that Chelsea are set to considerably test such steely resolve. It is believed that Blues boss Jose Mourinho is an admirer of Draxler and wants to make an offer of approximately £25 million for his services when the market re-opens for business in January.
