Liverpool chief "never doubted" Kenny Dalglish return
'King' Kenny's return to Anfield was always on the cards, according to Ian Ayre
Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has revealed he never doubted that legend Kenny Dalglish would return to Anfield in some capacity.
It was announced last Friday that the Kop legend was returning to the club as an non-executive director and would once again play a prominent role for the club.
Liverpool fans were understandably delighted at the news that the man who won eight league titles, two FA Cups and three European Cups as a player and manager at Anfield.
Dalglish also won the League Cup as boss in 2012 before being sacked after a disappointing Premier League campaign that saw them finish in eighth place and have to deal with the Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra incident.
Ayre insisted it was only ever a matter of time before the former Celtic player and manager would return to the Merseyside club in some capacity and was delighted he was able to get it finalised.
"I never had any doubt that Kenny would come back at some point," he told the official Liverpool website.
"But it was just about getting the timing right and the role right and I think we've done fantastically well on both fronts.
"We were always conscious that he would come back. Kenny is part of the furniture at Liverpool. We are like one big family. Kenny will always be part of the Liverpool family and rightly so."
