The Vancouver Canucks came from behind yet again and beat the New Jersey Devils 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday.
Jason Garrison scored the game winner late in the overtime period. This game was focused on the battle between former teammates Roberto Louongo and Cory Schneider. Schneider was traded to the Devils at the draft last season in exchange for Bo Hovart and both of these goalies put on quite a show.
But, in the end, the experienced Louongo led his team to victory over his former teammate. However, the Canucks fans still showed a great amount of respect for Schneider. They didn’t boo him and chanting his name only seemed to help him.
There are several things Canucks fans should be extremely pleased about. Obviously coming from behind and stealing the victory was great, but I also liked that coach John Tortorella split up the Sedin twins from time to time. Also, players like Jannik Hansen and David Booth seem to getting a lot more ice.
Furthermore, the entire squad seems to be getting used Tortorella’s style of being a more physical team. This is something that the Canucks have been in desperate need of. So, it’s another win for the Canucks, which comes right before the team goes on the road for an extended period of time. This will be quite an adjustment for Tortorella to get used to since he’s used to being in the Eastern Conference. However, so far things seem to be going well.
For the Devils, it’s clear that they still haven’t found replacements for Ilya Kolvalchuk or Zack Parise. Additionally, the fact that they’ve seen leads evaporate in their last two games is a cause for concern.
One thing that is for certain is that fans of both of these teams would get quite a show if the Canucks and Devils met in the playoffs. I can’t wait to see whether that prospect will become a reality.
