Lithuanian teammates sent off after fighting each other

With football being such a beloved team game, you might take it as a given that players on the same side are generally obliged to work together in order to achieve the desired outcome.

While this is generally the case, there have been one or two high-profile examples of teammates squaring up to one another during heated exchanges in the midst of battle.

When thinking of scraps between teammates, perhaps the most memorable example is the scuffle that occurred between English duo Kieron Dyer and Lee Bowyer during Newcastle's Premier League fixture against Aston Villa in 2005.

However, this fight between Dainava Alytus pair Deividas Padaigis and Titas Vitukynas makes the Dyer-Bowyer dispute look like a friendly chat.

During a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Banga, the two teammates clashed in shocking scenes as their team were trying to defend an ensuing attack.

After getting in each other's faces, the two then let fly and each unleashed a barrage of blows before the referee was forced to intervene and send the pair off for an early bath.

Watch footage of the shocking fight above.
