Andrea Pirlo - Who needs him the most? (4)

Published 2 Comments

Arsenal

Perhaps shocked into action by that humiliating 3-1 opening day loss at the hands of Paul Lambert's Aston Villa, Arsenal have enjoyed a scintillating start to the new season - a start which has been in no small part due to their in-form midfield.

Alongside club-record signing Mesut Ozil - who signed for a fee of £42.5 million from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day - Welshman Aaron Ramsey has been an absolute revelation at the Emirates Stadium, silencing his critics with a series of all-action performances and weighing in with his fair share of goals.

In addition to those aforementioned two, Arsene Wenger is certainly not short of options in the middle of the park with returning Frenchman Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta, England star Jack Wilshere, fans favourite Santi Cazorla and the graceful figure of Tomas Rosicky all competing for places.

Do they need him?

The sensational form of Wenger's midfield so far this season would suggest not, however, a player of Pirlo's quality is almost impossible to ignore. In all likelihood, the Gunners will surely be looking to prioritise other, more pressing needs - such as providing adequate cover for Olivier Giroud - in the future.
