Chelsea have been handed a major boost in the race to sign striker Burak Yilmaz, with Galatasaray's chairman having seemingly given his blessing to any potential move.

28-year-old Yilmaz, who joined the Turkish giants from rivals Trabzonspor in July 2012, has been in formidable form of late, having netted a plethora of goals at the Türk Telekom Arena.

Such impressive form led Serie A outfit Lazio to register an interest in signing the talented striker, but they were unable to complete any deal during the summer.

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea - who have had somewhat of an underwhelming start to the season with their trio of established strikers coming in for heavy criticism due to a chronic lack of goals - are the latest club to be linked with a move for the in-form Turkish international.

With a possible bid on the horizon, the Blues have received encouragement from a rather unlikely source - Galatasaray chief Unal Aysal - who seems to have given his blessing to such a move.

"If he wants to go and Chelsea are interested then of course, why not? I favour Turkish players going to Europe to play in European leagues," he was quoted by talkSPORT.

Although he appeared to endorse Yilmaz moving to Stamford Bridge, Aysal also confirmed that Chelsea are yet to bid for his services.

"No [we have not received an offer from Chelsea], not yet.

"We had some requests from Lazio at the end of the summer. But the deal didn't go through because the conditions were not satisfied," he added.

Chelsea, who recorded a 3-1 victory over Chris Hughton's Norwich at Carrow Road last Sunday, return to action after the international break with a home clash against newly-promoted Cardiff City on October 19.
