Arsenal's record signing Mesut Ozil may be one of the most skillful footballers in Europe - but by his own admission he lacks quality in front of the microphone.
The 24-year-old, who the Gunners bought for £43m from Spanish giants Real Madrid this summer, says that his initiation ceremony at the Emirates Stadium was a bit of a nightmare.
New signings are required to greet their new teammates by singing a song - but Ozil did not relish the experience.
"The singing bit, I didn't really want to do that because my voice just isn't up to it," the Germany international was quoted as saying by the Telegraph. "I'm not an X-Factor contender by any stretch of the imagination."
Asked what song he chose to sing, Ozil replied: "The song was a Turkish song, to be honest. Of course, people didn't understand what I was singing."
Some would argue that because Ozil can't sing he would make the perfect X-Factor contestant.
The former Real Madrid star also revealed that teammate and compatriot Per Mertesacker has helped him adjust to life in England by giving him some driving tips.
"Driving on the left-hand side - I thought it would be much more difficult than it really is," Ozil added. "But Per Mertesacker gave me some 'driving lessons' and they helped me, so I can drive there. London is an interesting city to live in. I have grown to love the place in a short space of time."
