Manchester City ace targets England World Cup spot
Manchester City star Jack Rodwell is fit & looking to impress prior to the World Cup
Jack Rodwell has claimed that he is fit for Manchester City's next fixture and wants to cement a spot in the first-team ahead of the World Cup in Brazil.
The midfielder made a £12million switch from Everton last summer but only managed 12 appearances last season.
22-year-old Rodwell initially made a good start to life at the Etihad, starting five of City's first seven Premier League games.
However, an injury curtailed his progress and Rodwell struggled with fitness and form throughout the rest of the season.
Rodwell is now hoping he can use the international break as a chance to gain full-fitness. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News he said: "It's international week now, so it gives me a good week to get ready. I'm fit now so I'm back training so it gives me time to get a lot more fitness.
"I'm fit for the next game basically. I won't be obviously match-fit but I'm fit for selection."
And whilst not included in Roy Hodgson's squad to face Montenegro or Poland, Rodwell is if he can work his way into Manuel Pellegrini's side and England call wouldn't be too far away:
"That's for the manager to pick me," he said.
"I wish them all the best against Montenegro and Poland.
"I'm sure we'll do well and, hopefully, the World Cup is on the horizon.
"If I can get in the City team and do well, things like that can come along for me.
"The main focus is staying fit and getting in the City team."
Rodwell will be hoping he's involved in City's next fixture as they take on a West Ham outfit full of confidence after their 3-0 dismantling of Tottenham.
