Manchester United star targeted by Galatasaray

Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Galatasaray, according to Turkish newspaper Fanatik.

28-year-old Valencia, who arrived at Old Trafford from Wigan Athletic in June 2009, enjoyed a vibrant start to life with United but has since suffered an alarming slump in form.

The former Villarreal outcast appears to be struggling for consistency with the Premier League champions under the guidance of David Moyes, and even tried to address his lack of form by abandoning the club's famous number seven shirt in order to return to his old squad number prior to the start of the new campaign.

That does not appear to have done wonders for Valencia as of yet, however, with the player - along with fellow widemen Ashley Young and Nani - struggling to impose themselves and create a steady stream of chances during United's torrid start to the new campaign.

According to Fanatik, Turkish giants Galatasaray, who appointed unpopular former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini as their new boss last month, hold an interest in the experienced Ecuadorian international and could make a move when the window re-opens for business in January.

Galatasaray and Mancini are evidently in need of new recruits, as the defending Süper Lig champions attempt to galvanise a disastrous season by their usual lofty standards. Having won just one solitary league game so far this season, the Istanbul outfit currently lie in 13th place after six fixtures.
