Mamadou Sakho has today thanked Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard for welcoming him to Anfield, and helping him feel settled at the club.
The French defender joined the Reds in September for £18million from Paris Saint-Germain, where his football career began in the youth squad.
Sakho, while speaking on international duty, said: "The player that always impresses at Liverpool is Mr Gerrard.
"He's a respectful man, calm, serene, with a foot like clockwork.
"He puts the ball exactly where he wants.
"He's an exceptional person on and off the pitch. He's helped me settle in, just as Kolo Toure has."
Sakho, 23, has started Liverpool's last four Premier League games and says he is happy to wear a Liverpool shirt.
He added: "Liverpool is the Premier League's most successful club, a club with a great history behind it.
"I'm very proud to wear that shirt, especially as I'm very family-oriented, and the club is like me. That suits me perfectly."
Sakho has captained all youth levels for the French international team, and made his senior debut in November 2010 against England.
Meanwhile, Sakho isn't the only Liverpool player to praise Gerrard this week, as bad-boy Luis Suarez also praised the 33-year-old for his calming influence and senior position at the club.
Liverpool's next Premier League clash sees them take on Newcastle on Saturday October 19, on their return to action after the international break this weekend.
