Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell has returned to training after recovering from a hamstring injury.

The midfielder has made only 12 league appearances for City since joining from Everton in 2012.

He started in City's 0-0 draw against Stoke back in September but was unable to make an impression on the game.

Since starting his career, the player has been plagued by numerous injuries. Indeed, the most league appearances that he has made was in 2009/10 when he made 26. It is a sad situation for such a highly-rated player.

Rodwell, speaking to the Daily Mirror, said, "I'm fit and I am back training, I won't be match fit but I am fit for selection."

The Mirror also reports that Rodwell's latest hamstring injury is his sixth in two years.

It is also understood that the player's injury problems have been the reason for his lack of involvement with the national team.

England manager Roy Hodgson has made it clear that players need to be playing regularly for their clubs in order to be considered for national selection.

The player will be hoping, perhaps without optimism, that his latest injury will be his last.
