Liverpool and Manchester United are the frontrunners to sign Derby County midfielder Will Hughes, according to the Daily Mail.
The 18-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of the most promising footballers outside of the Premier League, is also on the radar of several other big clubs - and has been for some time now.
It's believed that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who is "desperately keen" to sign Hughes, will urge the Reds' board to pay the £15m that Derby are currently demanding for the England Under-21 international.
However, United are reportedly keen to bring that price down, while the Mail also suggest that Old Trafford chiefs are unconvinced about his slight build.
Nevertheless, it seems certain that Hughes will move on, possibly as early as January after recently-appointed manager Steve McClaren admitted that the Championship club face a losing battle to hold onto him.
Hughes has played 54 matches for Derby, scoring six goals, since making his debut during the 2011/12 campaign.
