We all know what is the main topic of late when we are talking about the Chicago Bulls - the strong return of former NBA MVP Derrick Rose.
Of course, he looks a little rusty and he is not at his best in terms of FG percentage while he is still getting back to his old shape. But, on the other hand, Rose is looking ready to take the NBA by storm again this year.
He looks even faster than he was before and we were able to see this in some transition plays in the games against the Indiana Pacers and MemphisGrizzlies. Rose has also added five inches to his vertical, so we know he will be even tougher to guard when penetrating in the paint this season.
All in all, we can say that D-Rose hasn't let anyone down so far and we can also say that he will be fully ready for the season opener against the defending champion Miami Heat.
The second thing that is easy to notice is the Bulls' defence. The Bulls are once again expected to be the best defensive team in the NBA this year, as the coaching of Tom Thibodeau's game is always based on that. In the first two preseason games, they averaged nine blocked shots per game and also added seven steals per game. These stats are going along with a lot of contested shots, which led to the Bulls out rebounding their opponents by more than 10 rebounds in each of these games.
Coach Thibs is especially happy with the new shooting guard Jimmy Butler, who looks outstanding, especially on the defensive end of the floor. But Butler is also making an impact on offence. He looks like he has improved his ball-handling skills this summer and also shows that he has become more aggressive when penetrating, as he had 16 free-throw attempts in the first two games.
The problem for the Bulls remains their shooting. They hit only eight threes in those first two games and attempted only 19. Of course, D-Rose didn't take as many shots as he will during the season and the same goes for Luol Deng, who was a constant threat from outside last season. But, if they want to continue winning, they will need to add that weapon to their offensive game.
So far, the Bulls are looking focused and ready. We all know that it is only pre-season, but strong starts can lead to big things at the end. So, if they keep doing what they were doing IN the first two games, they can look forward to having a great season.
