The Napoli ‘keeper saved a penalty from the Italian in his sides’ 2-1 victory at the San Siro earlier this season and as a memento for stopping Mario Balotelli from the spot requested the player’s shirt.

Bizarrely, in an attempt to keep the memory fresh, Pepe Reina now wears the former Manchester City striker’s jersey to bed.

“I couldn’t not ask for his shirt after saving a penalty from him,” ESPN quote Reina as saying.

“It was a historical event. He gave it to me and I’ve got it here with me now. I’m wearing a unique set of pyjamas - I’m sleeping with Balotelli’s shirt and Napoli shorts.

Reina is currently away with the Spain squad as they play their final two qualifying games for the World Cup, although the reigning World Cup and European Champions have already qualified.

However, the ex-Liverpool stopper will surely have one eye on his club side’s next fixture - a top of the table clash with Roma.

Napoli, along with Roma, have been Serie A’s most impressive side and they’ll be looking to end Roma’s 100 per cent record in the league so far when they visit Stadio Olimpico.

Reina joined Napoli on loan this season as his parent club splashed the cash on Simon Mignolet.

The move sees Reina link up with former boss Rafa Benitez who also brought in fellow Spaniards Raul Albiol and Jose Callejon from Real Madrid.
