Manchester City star Micah Richards is a January transfer target for Newcastle United, according to The Sun.
The 25-year-old returned to first team at the Etihad Stadium only recently after making just seven league appearances last season due to a hamstring injury.
With the World Cup next summer still a target for the full-back, Alan Pardew could be set to hand him the chance of regular first-team football at St James' Park.
Richards, who has won 13 caps for his country, this week vowed that he would not beg for a place in Roy Hodgson's side - despite saying he would want a return to international football.
But the former Great Britain player could find game time hard to come by at the Etihad this season after Pablo Zabaleta, Matija Nastasić and Aleksandar Kolarov established themselves in the City backline.
Richards would be exactly the kind of experienced defender that Pardew would need to improve a leaky Toon defence that has conceded 12 goals in seven league games so far this season.
However, Richards, who signed for City from Oldham at the age of 14, looks to still be part of manager Manuel Pellegrini's plan after he featured in the 3-1 Champions League defeat to last year's winners Bayern Munich.
Richards will once again be seeking a starting role when City face West Ham in Premier League after the international break.
