Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes Mesut Ozil can fire the Gunners to the Premier League title this season.

The north London club have been on fire since the arrival of the £42.5 million man on transfer deadline day last month, and have dropped points in just one game since then, against West Brom before the international break.

Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League and have a perfect record in the Champions League, and Pires, who played 284 appearances for the Gunners between 2000 and 2006, believes with Ozil on board exciting times lay ahead for the north London club.

“It’s now possible for Arsenal to win as the young players have grown up and have more experience,” the Frenchman told Daily Star Sunday.

“They also have a good mix for Wenger. If you put Özil in the middle, I think it’s a very good mix for Arsenal.”

Arsenal go up against Norwich at the Emirates Stadium after the international break before resuming their Champions League campaign against Borussia Dortmund.

“Seriously, I think Arsenal have got the potential to win the Premier League,” Pires continued.

“But the Champions League, I don’t know.

“The most important thing is to focus on the league because it is very important for the club and for the fans.”
