Real Madrid made an "error" by signing Bale

Published 6 Comments

Real Madrid made an ‘error’ in signing Gareth Bale from Tottenham for £86 million if they knew of his medical problems, according to a leading Spanish doctor.

Bale became the most expensive player on the planet when he joined Madrid from Tottenham on the last day of the summer transfer window, but has struggled for regular game-time because of a string of injuries.

The Welshman, who has played just 132 minutes for his new club, has been struggling with "a small chronic disc protrusion” which Madrid have been forced to deny requires surgery that will consign him to a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

Dr Avelino Parajon told Spanish newspaper Marca that he believes Real Madrid made an mistake if they knew about the extent of the former Tottenham man’s injuries when they signed him from White Hart Lane.

'If Real Madrid have signed Gareth Bale knowing about this protrusion, they have committed an error,” he said.

'That is not to say that tomorrow it can be operated on and he can continue playing, like has happened many times.

'But if he already has problems with protruding discs, that indicates that it is not a one-off.

'When a person has those problems at that age, it suggests that he has a great possibility of suffering herniated discs and symptoms arising from that over time. It is a bad sign for any athlete.'

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti believes Bale, who missed a large portion of pre-season with Tottenham as he angled for a move to Spain, will be available for action against Malaga next weekend. If that proves to be the case it means he will also be available for the first Clasico derby against Barcelona of the season on October 26.
