The San Jose Sharks have been playing some great hockey of late. They're 4-0, and their rookie prospects have been scoring consistently as well.

But now the team has to deal with a useless, negative media frenzy - and this is due to the comments of veteran forward and long time Shark Joe Thornton.

Now, I don’t know what was said, and frankly I don’t want to know. However, I’m really surprised that it was Thornton who said it. This is a player who’s been in the game since 1997, he’s the captain of the team, and has an impressive career points total of 1,122.

Therefore, I never expected an experienced player like him would be in this situation so late in his career. I know things are going well for his team, and those emotions can cause things to be said that may not be appropriate. But at the same time, I have to say that I’ve lost a little respect for Thornton.

However, I don’t think the statement should’ve been reported in the first place. Obviously, it was meant to be an internal joke. It was stupid of Joe to yell it across the room.

But none of the other media sources chose to act on the statement. So, I’ve no idea why one person felt the need to bring it up. It has nothing to do with hockey, and the Vancouver Canucks certainly don’t need any help defending themselves.

Players chirp other players in groups all the time. I don’t buy the statement of this gentleman’s need to supply “shock value” to his blog either. There was no need for this negative statement to get broadcasted to the world.

Yes, it was an inappropriate joke, and it shouldn’t have been stated. But I’m fairly certain that Joe knows that.

The bottom line is that I hate when stupid, inappropriate stuff like this gets discussed at length. I hope it never happens again.

In my opinion, everybody should’ve just focused on the game, and the impact the win may have on the rest of the Sharks season. In the end, the points are what matter most anyway.
