Ezequiel Garay blames Moyes over transfer failure

Manchester United target Ezequiel Garay has pin pointed David Moyes' appointment as the reason he is not at Old Trafford, according to the Metro.

The Benfica defender has claimed he was all set for a transfer to the Premier League champions until the Scot took over as manager, following a summer wherein the Red Devils were closely linked with the player.

According to reports, the 26-year-old had his heart set on a move, and a deal had all but been officially finalised, before the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson meant that Moyes took over at United. Garay believes it was Moyes' subsequent refusal to meet Benfica's valuation of him that is the main reason he remained in Portugal.

"I believed I was going to join Manchester United in the summer. The deal was nearly closed but finally Benfica did not accept the offer," the Argentinian.

"I believe the exit of Ferguson has influenced the deal. Moyes did not believe in me as much but that’s not a problem.

"I am happy at Benfica and have a lot of dreams and ambitions for this season. Now I only think about the present which is Benfica but it’s never possible to discard anything in the future."

The failure to bring in Garay was one of many hiccups in David Moyes's first transfer window as Ferguson's successor.

High-profile snubs from the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara, coupled with issues in bringing in the likes of Fabio Coentrao, Ander Herrera and Leighton Baines, meant that the former Everton boss came under widespread criticism.
