Arsenal: Five potential striker signings (1)

After a long and massively frustrating trophy drought, this season looks as if it could finally be Arsenal's time once again.

With long-serving manager Arsene Wenger having broken free of the self-imposed frugality that had begun to characterise the club's rather paltry efforts in the transfer market since their move to the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners have looked formidable so far this season.

Inspired by club-record signing Mesut Ozil - who arrived from Spanish giants Real Madrid for a £42.5 million fee on deadline day - Arsenal bounced back in tremendous fashion from an embarrassing opening day defeat at home to Aston Villa and currently sit top of the Premier League after collecting 16 points from their subsequent six top-flight encounters.

Alongside Ozil and rejuvenated midfield accomplice Aaron Ramsey, perhaps the most pleasing performer among Wenger's ranks has been French striker Olivier Giroud. Often derided during his opening campaign in North London, the former Montpellier man has been in stunning form during the embryonic stages of the 2013/14 campaign.

Yet, as impressive as the hugely physical Giroud's form has been, Gunners fans remain concerned about the lack of competition in the final third. If the France international were to suffer an injury, only unfancied Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner and untested youngster Yaya Sanogo currently sit in reserve.

Here, GMS looks at five strikers who could potentially be signed by Wenger in January in order to bolster his options in the final third and provide adequate competition for Giroud.
