Barcelona midfielder Xavi has had to come to the defence of his fellow team-mate Neymar, insisting that the Brazilian is not a play actor.
Since joining Barcelona from Santos for a club record €57million, Neymar has come under heavy criticism for persistent diving and play acting.
But 33-year-old midfielder Xavi believes that it is because Barca have so many rivals, in particular, Real Madrid, that the young forward has come under some heavy criticism.
Xavi told RAC1: "All the focus is on Neymar, but he is not play-acting or diving.
"These accusations happen because we have a lot of rivals.
"The people in Madrid are looking for things they don't like then try to put a certain label on the player."
Neymar particularly came under the spotlight when he had to endure a tough night in Glasgow nearly two weeks ago when his side clinched a 1-0 victory away at Celtic.
The 21-year-old was kicked and fouled to the floor on numerous occasions and was involved in the red card of Scott Brown, when the Scottish midfielder kicked out at the Brazilian.
It is quite clear that the new Barca signing has an endless amount of talent and Xavi believes his side are lucky to have him.
"Neymar has the skills to be a big star, if he's not one already at this stage. We're lucky to gave him."
Neymar has made a bright start to his career with the Catalan giants, scoring two goals and making five assists so far in their La Liga campaign.
