Adnan Januzaj has burst on the scene at just the right time to detract attention away from Manchester United’s stuttering start to the new campaign and many optimistic United fans might be hoping that he will help get them back on track.
However, if we cast our minds back to 2009 we might remember a 17 year-old striker by the name of Federico Macheda who scored a 90th minute winning goal on his debut for United.
After he scored in the following game against Sunderland, many were hailing him as
the next big thing.
Since then, however, he has only scored three goals for United and went all last season on loan at Stuttgart without scoring once. He recently returned from a loan spell at Championship side Doncaster.
While there is no doubt that Januzaj is a major footballing talent, it is important to remember that a long road lies ahead before that talent is realised.
Unfortunately, Januzaj is unlikely to prove to be the solution to Moyes’ stumbling start at United.
