Excluding those that will qualify through dropping out of the Champions League, there are five stand-out teams that have a chance of winning the tournament this season -
Known as a top club in Italy, they finished 4th in Serie A last season which is no easy feat with the quality in the top Italian league.
Having sold Stevan Jovetić to Manchester City, they've lost their star man - but they've won their first two group matches and Rossi has gratefully stepped up to become their main striker and key figure in the Fiorentina team.
They've swept aside Paços de Ferreira and Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk so far, and will hope to keep up their winning form to take them into the knock-out round and further in the competition.
2. Tottenham Hotspur
Having missed out on the final Champions League spot to Arsenal on the last day of the 12/13 season, Tottenham have drafted in many new signings.
They've lost their star man of last season, as with Fiorentina, but have replaced him with a squad of top quality talent, including breaking their transfer record three times to sign Paulinho, Soldado and Lamela.
They've easily dispatched of Tromsø and Anzhi Makhachkala, keeping two clean sheets in the process to go top of their group, looking set to progress into the next round.
Another Italian team in the top five.
They have a great squad with the likes of Federico Marchetti in goal, Hernanes and Miroslav Klose.
They have won and drawn their first two games, leaving them tied with Trabzonspor, but they certainly have the talent to see themselves in to the next round and will be a tough fixture for any team they come across.
4. Rubin Kazan
A surprise choice perhaps, but their form in the group stage has been formidable, winning both their games so far scoring 9 goals.
They smashed Maribor and Zulte Waregem 5-2 and 4-0 respectively, with 7 different scorers, showing that they have many players who are a threat.
The team from Russia are no pushovers in this competition and could be a dark horse - it all depends on how they perform against stronger opposition.
A top force in Spain, it's no secret of the talent they possess in their ranks.
With the likes of Kevin Gameiro and Jose Reyes, they have no shortage of players who can score goals, and having won their first two group games - against Estoril and Freiburg - have proven that they have the ability to progress in the Europa League and potentially win it.
Other teams in the competition in with a chance based on their early performances include Lyon, Valencia, Swansea and Tranzonspor.
