Javier Hernandez scuffs open-goal opportunity

Published 1 Comments

Javier Hernandez is usually so clinical inside the penalty area, for both Manchester United and Mexico, but this clip just goes to show that pressure affects even the best players.

The 25-year-old, who has scored 35 goals in 53 matches for Mexico, missed - sort of - the easiest chance of his career in Tuesday night's crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica.

The ball still rolled into the net, but because his teammate went to add the finishing touch - it looked for all the world like it needed one - Hernandez's scuffed effort was subsequently chalked off for offside.

Mexico went on to lose the match, 2-1, but still make the 2014 World Cup qualification play-offs after Panama threw away a 2-1 lead deep in stoppage time to lose 3-2 against USA.
