Manchester United are considering making an offer for Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner, according to Swiss sources picked up by talkSPORT.
29-year-old Lichtsteiner joined the reigning Serie A champions from rivals Lazio during the summer of 2011 and has subsequently become a pivotal member of Juve's defence during his two-year stint in Turin.
His fine displays for The Old Lady appear to have caught the attention of Red Devils manager David Moyes, who, according to those aforementioned Swiss sources picked up by talkSPORT, are plotting a bid of approximately £10m for the Switzerland international when the transfer window re-opens for business in the new year.
However, whether the under-pressure Scot will be able to secure Lichtsteiner at such a price remains to be seen, with the Italian giants believed to value the marauding right-back at around the £14 million mark.
Given Moyes' well-documented failure to secure a number of high-profile targets during the summer, it is a fair assumption that he will be out to strengthen his squad considerably in January.
While he presumably will not want to be forced into paying extravagant and inflated fees in order to bolster his ranks at Old Trafford, that unfortunately may well be the case.
