Alvaro Negredo denied breathtaking bicycle kick goal

Manchester City forward Alvaro Negredo was denied the goal of a lifetime during Spain's clash with Georgia last night.

With the scores tied at 0-0 and 20 minutes on the clock, the ball was played in at pace to the striker in a crowded area. It's fair to say that with his back to goal and a man tight on his back, Negredo would have been forgiven for looking to lay the ball off to a team-mate.

However the 28-year-old opted for a far more flamboyant spectacle, flicking the ball high into the air and executing a near-perfect bicycle kick.

Whether or not his first touch was intended to set up the effort or simply poor control that required drastic improvisation, the result is certainly easy on the eye.

Unfortunately for him, Georgian 'keeper Giorgi Loria was equal to the effort and acrobatically tipped it over the bar.

Negredo shouldn't be too down though, as he did score later on to make it 1-0. Spain ran out eventual 2-0 winners.
