Sheffield Wednesday footballer Gary Madine will appeal his 18 month prison sentence, reports Sky Sports.
The striker was convicted at Leeds Crown Court for punching two men in separate nightclub attacks.
The 23-year-old, who scored 18 league goals in Wednesday's League One promotion campaign back in 2012, punched Wednesday fan Daniel Beresford in the Paris Bar in Sheffield city centre in February last year and then attacked Sheffield United fan Reece Hall in the city's Viper Room club a month later.
Madine was jailed on October 4 after a week-long trail, but it set to appeal the decision.
A statement on the club's official website read:
"Following consultation with the legal team of Gary Madine, Sheffield Wednesday have been made aware of their intention to lodge an appeal following the 23-year-old's recent trial at Leeds Crown Court.
"Until the conclusion of this or any other legal process, the club will make no further comment."
Madine, who started his career with Carlisle, was previously convicted of assault in 2010.
