Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Santi Carzola, Tomas Rosisky, Abou Diaby, Emmanuel Frimpong.

Compare that to high spenders Manchester City, which many bookies have as
favourites to win the Premier League.

Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Jack Rodwell, James Milner, David Silva, Jesus Navas, Javi Garcia, Samir Nasri.

Despite the discrepancy in cost to acquire these players, there is no doubt that Arsenal have developed midfield depth that is strong enough for them to be able to challenge for every trophy this season.

They have started the Premier League season as the form team, leading the ladder after seven matches. The aquisitions of Mesut Ozil and Mathieu Flamini have bolstered an already
talented midfield group, whilst only losing Denilson from last season, who was rarely seen in recent times.

The hype around Ozil has been well documented, however just as importantly they added Flamini to the squad which has been a key factor in Arsenal developing a balanced midfield. There were times last season where the only defensive midfielder Arsenal had was Mikel Arteta, who was converted to the role after a lack of defensive minded midfielder's being a part of Arsenals squad.

This was considered a weak point, especially through the wet and muddy Christmas period, where Arsenals passing game is harder to implement due to the weather conditions, thus a heavier reliance is needed on “midfield enforcers”, which teams like Manchester United prove time and time again.

Throw in the names of Podolski, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott and Gnabry who can all play as attack minded midfielders, and all of a sudden the gloomy days of last season seem so long ago.

Even though in recent seasons they have lost players that made a name for themself at Arsenal such as Cesc Fabregas, Alex Song and Samir Nasri, Arsene Wenger has still managed to form an outstanding bunch of midfield players that will see them contend most seriously for the Premier League this season, with the hopes of perhaps capturing one more tournament trophy.

With the midfield being seemingly complete, Wenger’s focuswill be on his striking options, as an injury to inform goal scorer, Oliver Giroud would be of massive concern to the manager, with only Yaya Sanogo and Nicklas Bendtner the only other options to play as centre forwards.

The arrival of Ozil will help lure another top striker, and if so will go a
long way towards Arsenal returning to the top of the post in England.
