Manchester United - Defensive midfield

Much of the talk at the beginning of the season was about Manchester United's lack of creativity going forward, but the resurgence of Wayne Rooney and the emergence of Adnan Januzaj has meant this is probably less of a problem.

However, David Moyes' side have been conceding some sloppy goals and the back four is being exposed repeatedly. Michael Carrick is a fine deep-lying playmaker but is not the archetypal shield in front of the defence.

A player like Daniele de Rossi would provide a defensive instinct in midfield, as well as technical brilliance and his ability to drop back into the back line would offer some useful versatility to Old Trafford club.
