Sven Goran Eriksson has been tipped to become the manager of League One strugglers Sheffield United, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Blades are currently without a manager after sacking former Everton player David Weir as manager after just four months in charge.

And the Swede is understood to be the new owner's preferred choice as they aim to get the club back into the Championship.

The 65-year-old is currently managing Guangzhou R&F in China, but he would reportedly be interested in joining an English side for the fourth time.

United's first choice replacement, Nigel Clough - who was sacked by Derby County earlier this season - appears to have fallen down the pecking order and talks look to have stalled.

Eriksson has plenty of experience in England but has had mixed fortunes as a manager. He took over the England National side in 2001 and led the Three Lions to three major tournaments where they went out in the quarter-finals every time.

He became Manchester City manager in 200  but only lasted one season, the same happening at Championship side Leicester City.

Eriksson was also named as director of football at Notts County in a bizarre time at the club, when they also signed former Arsenal and England defender Sol Campbell.

United are currently rock bottom of League One, with just one league win so far this season.
