Celtic captain Scott Brown has been banned for three matches by UEFA following his sending off against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, reports the BBC.

Brown received a straight red card for kicking out at Brazilian forward, Neymar whilst the pair clashed chasing a loose ball.

A Cesc Fabregas winner compiled Celtic's misery as Barcelona won 1-0 at Celtic Park.

The 28 year-old will now miss three crucial matches, including back to back games with Ajax.

They face the Dutch champions on Tuesday night and then travel to Amsterdam two weeks later.

Celtic then host AC Milan in late November. Brown will return for Neil Lennon's sides last game of the group in the Nou Camp away at Barcelona.

Celtic lie bottom of Group H with two defeats out of two, already four points behind second placed Milan.

Things are looking brighter on the domestic scene, however, as Lennon's men have already opened up a three point lead on second placed Inverness and have a game in hand.
