AJ Styles was set upon by Bully Ray and the Aces & Eights as Dixie Carter’s quest to destroy the Phenomenal One was taken to a new level.

World Heavyweight Champion Ray, who was attacked by Styles a week earlier during his match with Samoa Joe, was offered a ‘revenge match’ in which he was permitted to choose the opponents and the type of bout.

Styles was placed up against Ray’s two remaining Aces & Eights cohorts – Knux and Garrett Bischoff– and although he won the match with a pin on the latter, he was set upon after the final bell by a watching Ray, who used his iconic steel chain to repeatedly lash his upcoming title challenger before flipping him over the ropes and onto the stage floor.

TNA President Carter has been undergoing a war of words with Styles over recent weeks in regards to his worth to the company and his still unsigned new contract, and was all too delighted to offer Ray his chance at revenge while hurting AJ’s chances of claiming the World Title at Bound for Glory on October 20th.

A crouching Ray kneeled beside a stricken AJ at the conclusion of the evening’s action, warning him not to return for their scheduled World Title match in San Diego, which is now just a couple of days away.

Elsewhere on another controversial night, Magnus and Sting earned their slots at Bound for Glory, after Carter challenged them to prove their worth to the company.

After the Main Event Mafia teammates had agreed to take on each other in San Diego, Carter warned them that they must first prove they deserved their place on the bill by defeating ‘Bad Influence’ – Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels – in a tag team match.

They did just that, with Sting pinning Kazarian, but an unhappy Magnus was left glaring at his partner despite the victory. Just moments earlier, Magnus had failed with submission attempt on Kazarian – and clearly wanted to be the one to win the match, following his battles with Bad Influence and EGO over recent weeks.

Defeat capped a bad night all round for Daniels and Kazarian. Mid-way through making Bobby Roode their inaugural member of the ‘EGO Hall of Fame’, Kurt Angle returned to TNA Wrestling, challenging Roode to a match at Bound for Glory – where he himself is due to become the second member of the official Hall of Fame – following in the footsteps of Sting.

Brooke Tessmacher took the final spot in the line-up that will challenge ODB for the Knockout’s Title. She defeated Velvet Sky and will now join Gail Kim in a three way match-up against the defending champion.

Samoa Joe also announced he would be part of a title match next week, adding himself to the Ultimate X match for the X Division title, which already includes defending champion Manic, Jeff Hardy, Austin Aries and Chris Sabin.

The news came following Aries victory over Hardy, in a one on one match that kicked off the evening – Aries claiming victory with a stunning brain-buster move off of the ropes.

And finally, for the second week in a row, Lei’d Tapa interrupted a match. The giant woman of Amazonian proportions attacked Velvet Sky last week, inflicting an injury that was clear to see in her defeat to Brooke. This time she came between ODB, Eric Young and the Bro Mans as they clashed yet again. She crashed the Knockouts champion to the floor, holding the belt aloft before tossing it aside. Her huge stature and strength certainly make her one to look out for in the future.
