German football is quickly becoming one of the best leagues in European football.

Bayern Munich are the dominant side in Europe at the moment, having won the Champions League last season to complete a treble, and have arguably the best squad in the world.

And Borussia Dortmund are quickly becoming a strong force to be reckoned with, having reached the Champions League final last year, and finishing runners-up to Bayern in the league.

But does the success of these two giant clubs mean the Bundesliga is now a two-horse race every year?

The big problem for other teams in the Bundesliga is investment. Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and generate a lot more income than most of the other teams in the league. Bayern's average commercial revenue is in excess of €200 million, compared to Dortmund's €100 million.

This means teams cannot compete with Bayern financially, and even closest rivals Dortmund do not have the resources to keep up with their rivals. It is a very similar situation to Scotland, when Rangers and Celtic would get all of the investment from television and sponsorship  meaning other teams simply had no chance of challenging the scottish giants.

However, there is some hope for other Bundesliga teams. Since 2000, five teams have won the league, more than other leagues such as the Premier League and Spain's La Liga.

Also, defending the Bundesliga is a rare occurrence. Should Bayern defend the title this year, it will be the first time in 13 years that they have won back-to-back league titles, so there is the chance of a team surprising the current champions.

So there is a danger that the Bundesliga is becoming a league dominated by two teams. Scotland saw it, and Spain has over the last few years. And as long as Bayern are on top of their game, it looks very difficult for anyone to knock them off their perch.
