David Moyes has revealed that Wayne Rooney is the main man for Manchester United.

The English international has started this season in fine form and continued his great start to the campaign earlier this week as he scored the opening goal in England's victory over Poland.

And with Rooney excelling for both club and country, the Red Devils boss has praised his recent impact.

Speaking to reporters at his pre-match press conference, Moyes said: "I think he's at the age in his career where he would be one of the main players and he's certainly a main player for Manchester United and England.

"From that point of view, it's what you'd expect. He takes responsibility, scores the goals that are required and he's done that from a young age. The age he is now, he's got that maturity and it shows in how he plays and the condition he is in with the way he is playing for club and country."

Moyes has also insisted that the striker has been raring to go since the opening day of pre-season, and he continued by saying: "I saw Wayne on that first day of pre-season and yet you people [the press] were telling me you felt differently. I saw him in great form and great fettle, training fantastic from day one, but you want to say different things."

United take on Southampton at Old Trafford tomorrow and will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins after they beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in their last outing.

United currently trail league leaders Arsenal by six points and will be hoping to bridge the gap this weekend with a victory over the Saints.
