The eight-time French Open champion has announced that he will not be playing at the Swiss Indoors in Basel due to fatigue, reports USA Today.
Nadal revealed his withdrawal from the competition on his official Facebook page today.
"Hi all, sorry to announce that I won't travel to Basel in Switzerland but after very exhausting weeks I have to regroup my fitness and my body. I will do my best to come back to the Swiss Indoors next year."
The Spaniard, who is known to be less intimidating on hard courts in comparison to his favoured clay surface, reached the final of the China Open before losing to fierce rival Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 – the Serb's fourth Beijing crown of his career.
Nadal also fell short in the Shanghai Masters at the hands of Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro 6-2, 6-4 in their semi-final meeting.
Despite his recent losses, the 27-year-old has quickly recovered form close to his best since making his comeback in February following seven months off the tour with a serious aggravation of his troublesome knees.
Although Nadal is unable to compete next week, the competition in Basel will still be contested by a star-studded cast including Tomas Berdych, Juan Martin Del Potro and Swiss pair Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka.
