Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has revealed that former Manchester United captain Roy Keane used to terrify him.

The Spain international shared a dressing room with Roy Keane during the fiery Irishman's final year at Old Trafford – and he still vividly remembers an incident involving a mobile phone.

When asked in the latest issue of World Soccer magazine whether Keane used to scare him, Pique responded: "Yes, very frightening.

"One time he was sitting there in the dressing room before a game and my trousers were hanging from the peg just above his head and my mobile went off. It didn't make any noise, it just vibrated… and he went mad. "What the f***!" Shouting and screaming. Terrifying!"

Keane is regarded as one of Manchester United's best ever captains but left the club under a cloud in 2005 following a fall-out with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pique, meanwhile, would spend three more years with the Red Devils before rejoining boyhood club Barcelona, where he has since won a remarkable 16 trophies, cementing his status as one of Europe's best central defenders in the process.

The 26-year-old was also asked whether every dressing room needs a Roy Keane-type figure in order to become successful.

"I don't know," Pique added, "it was just the way it was: you turn up in the United dressing room and he was there. At Barcelona we don't really have someone like that and I don't think things have gone badly for us."
