Scotland manager Walter Smith could still take Darren Fletcher to Japan after initially ruling him out.

Smith was under the impression the Manchester United midfielder would be out for some time with a knee injury. But he has revealed that the 22-year-old international regular could be ready to fly to the Far East with the rest of his team-mates for the Kirin Cup next month.

"I thought Darren had suffered a bad knee injury but I am led to believe that he is back in training now and he could actually come to Japan with us," Smith told PA Sport.
