Can Patrick Bamford be Chelsea's striking sensation?
Patrick Bamford has been in fine form on loan at MK Dons
Patrick Bamford is one of Chelsea's brightest prospects. He's in hot goal scoring form for League One side Milton Keynes Dons, but can he repeat his heroics at Stamford Bridge?
Since signing from Nottingham Forest in 2012, much has been expected of the young striker. For a fee of £1.5 million, it could have pressurised any up-and-coming striker.
After a number of impressive performances for the Nottingham Forest youth team, including scoring five in a 9-1 win over Wigan Athletic, then four against Southampton, the Blues noticed his talents and quickly snapped him up.
Although he hasn't featured for Chelsea's first team as yet, he has played for the reserve squad. He scored a brace on his reserve debut against 5-4 win over Gillingham, scoring the winning goal from the penalty spot.
In November 2012, he was loaned out to MK Dons. He made his debut three days later against Colchester United, picking up three assists in the process. He ended the 2012/13 season with 14 appearances and four goals for The Dons.
For the 2013/14 season, he was loaned out once again to MK Dons after manager Karl Robinson said he would like to keep him for another season. His first goal came in a 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra. He continued his fine goal scoring form by scoring in back-to-back games, against Bristol City and Sunderland respectively.
Since then, he has scored a further nine goals in as many games. Making his record even more impressive; an incredible 12 goals in 16 appearances. Going by his recent performances, he is enjoying his football at stadium MK.
Let's not forget his parent club, Chelsea. This season hasn't been great for strikers at Stamford Bridge. With Samuel Eto'o the only striker to score in the Premier League for The Blues. Fernando Torres and Demba Ba remain goalless. So, with Bamford's excellent goal scoring prestige in place, could he rival the Chelsea strikers in the near future?
League One is a whole different level to Premier League, but Bamford has proven he can impress in whatever league or competition he plays in.
Could we be in the presence of a new striking sensation? And when will we be able to see Patrick Bamford banging in goals week-in, week-out in a Chelsea shirt? Only time will tell.
