Let's face it: the Premier League is dominated by foreign players.
With the summer window being busy, big, and smaller clubs have brought in a decent amount of players, but only a few of them were actually English, the rest being foreign players.
This spells a problem for English football, as it shows that there is a lower pool of English talent, which means that other national teams have a larger pool to pick from, and England is put at a severe disadvantage, which could prove a problem if the Three Lions are going to challenge for international silverware anytime soon.
England could play it like the Germans do, implying that all of the clubs agree to do it, which is highly unlikely, but it is a possibility. Think about it: you bring in foreign players, but you tone down the amount of foreign players you bring in, and up the amount of English players playing. Take Bayern Munich, for example.
Most of their team is German, yet they have a few foreigners in their team, but mostly German. Before, as well, they had a German manager. Which is another issue England needs to address. The lack of English managers. English managers could contribute on a whole, significantly greater than a foreign manager can to the development of English youth at any club in the top flight.
However, the main issue that needs to be addressed at the current moment is the lack of raw English talent.
There are exceptions, with the likes of Ross Barkley, Jack Wilshere, Ravel Morrison and company, but if you look at the clubs as a whole, and compare them, most of them field international players.
Of course the Premier League is an international league, one where everyone wants to play, which does pose some issues.
Much of the younger talent prodigies rarely get through to the national side, or at club level.
Gary Hooper and Fraser Forster are prime examples of players who need to have a go, and righteously deserve to. They have displayed what they are capable of, particularly Fraser Forster in keeping Celtic in the Champions League last season.
It is crucial that England start keeping policies like the German leagues, so that England can be spoiled with talent like Germany are.
